“He was rude to me because he didn’t congratulate me.”
“He is immature because he left me in the media room alone.”
What is this, second grade? You guys are Olympians. You are on the same team. It’s not like this is the Russians trash talking the US, or Czech saying they are better than Slovakia. This is two grown men cat-fighting about nothing. I understand that not everyone likes each other. I have disliked many people I have had to work with. I have disliked many people I had to play (hockey) with. What it comes down to, however, is even with that dislike, we had to work together. We had to at least pretend we liked each other, pretend to get along, so we could get the job done.
In case you weren’t aware, Shani Davis won the men’s 1000 meter speed skating. Chad Hendrick finished in 3rd place. Hendrick got pissed off, and didn’t congratulate HIS TEAMATE on his Gold medal win. Davis complained (publicly), and now this is the top story on Sports Center. While there are other smaller details, such as Davis doesn't want to skate in a different race, they are besides the main point.
The whole situation is completely uncalled for. It doesn’t matter that he beat you Chad. It doesn’t matter if you are pissed you didn’t win. This is your teammate. You are representing the United States of America, in the Olympics, the biggest event in the world. And Shani, handle it like a man. Don’t complain to the media and create a huge controversy that overshadows everything that is going on. You two don’t like each other, fine. Keep it to yourselves, don’t make it seem like our country is represented by a bunch of whining little girls.
